God's Spokespeople

Week theme: The Creator Speaks

Teacher

Hebrews 1:1-2 says God spoke in many ways through the prophets, but finally by His Son. How has God spoken after sin entered? What stands out?

New Believer

God didn’t give up. Creation, prophets, Scripture, Jesus. It shows persistence and love.

Inquirer

Nature feels ambiguous. It shows beauty and hurricanes. How do we know which parts speak of God?

Teacher

Romans 1 says creation reveals God’s power and divine nature, but sin marred it. Creation is the opening chapter, not the whole book. It points to the Author, but we need His character. That is why God sent prophets—not to add confusion, but to make His will and heart known.

The prophets were flawed. Moses was angry, David sinned, Jonah ran. If the messengers are flawed, why trust the message?

Teacher

God using flawed people shows the power is from Him, not them. Second Timothy 3:16 says Scripture is God-breathed. God used human authors with their own personalities, but the Spirit superintended the process so the message is what God intended.

The flaws of the messenger do not corrupt the message because God is the ultimate Author. Their failures also remind us that God’s revelation is an act of grace, not a reward for human perfection.

Inquirer

But why are there so many interpretations? Sincere Christians disagree.

Teacher

The Bible is clear on the essentials: who God is, who we are, how we are saved, how we are to live. Many disagreements are secondary, and some come from tradition, pride, or incomplete listening.

Jesus promised the Holy Spirit would guide us into truth. That guidance is real, but it is also gradual. Disagreement does not mean God failed to speak; it means we are still learning to listen together.

Church hurt me. People used certainty as a weapon.

Teacher

That is a tragedy, and God grieves it. But the misuse of a scalpel does not make surgery false. The Bible itself warns against using Scripture to wound rather than heal. The Pharisees searched the Scriptures but missed Jesus. Your pain is real, but it shows human failure to listen, not God’s failure to communicate.

New Believer

Jesus is the answer. John 14:9 says, “Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father.” In Jesus we see God’s compassion, mercy, justice, and love.

Teacher

Yes. Jesus is the definitive revelation. He is not just another prophet; He is the Son, God in flesh. He shows God’s heart and brings reconciliation. He came to seek and save the lost. He does not merely tell us the way home; He is the way home.

Inquirer

But He ascended. We have the Bible and the Spirit. How do I know I am not projecting my own desires onto the text?

Teacher

We are not left alone. The Spirit’s work is to glorify Christ and remind us of His teaching. The community of faith protects us from private blind spots. The creeds and believers across centuries help us read humbly.

The Spirit also testifies with our spirit that we belong to God. And Jesus is our interpretive lens: if a reading makes God look cruel, petty, or indifferent, it is not reflecting the Father revealed in Christ.

What about God’s silence? Sometimes it feels like forgetting.

Teacher

Silence is not absence. Sometimes it is an invitation to trust, a preparation for deeper revelation, or loving discipline. Job cried out while God seemed silent, but God was working. God’s ultimate answer was Himself. He still answers us in Christ, through the Spirit, and in the Word. The feeling of silence is real, but it is not the final truth. He has spoken definitively in His Son.

New Believer

Even when I don’t feel God, I can trust His Word and look at Jesus.

Inquirer

So the question is not only “Has God spoken?” but “Am I willing to listen?” The evidence is there.

Teacher

Exactly. The lesson asks how much comfort we get from knowing Jesus reveals what the Father is like. In a world of ambiguity, flawed messengers, and suffering, we have a clear revelation: Jesus. He is the exact representation of God’s being, the Word made flesh, the seeker of the lost. He gave us His Word and His Spirit. Comfort is not having every answer; it is knowing the One who holds them. His heart is love. That carries us.

I am not there yet. But I am still here. That means something.

Teacher

It means everything. Let’s pray, thanking God for patience with our doubts, for speaking in ways we can understand, and for giving us Jesus, the perfect image of His love. Amen.
